Who We Are
We bring people together to farm, cook, craft and savor the best food and drink in San Diego.
We start with the premise, articulated by Wendell Berry, that "eating is an agricultural act". Then we bring you closer to the production of your food and drink, both by incorporating local, regional and sustainably-grown ingredients, and by introducing you to the people who make your meal, all while serving the most delicious stuff we can imagine.
We're open every weekday from 5:30pm to 11:30pm, and Friday and Saturday from noon to 11:30pm, and Sunday from 10am to 11:30pm.
What To Expect
The Linkery is a table-service restaurant open for dinner every day till 11:30pm and also for lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We offer a full dining menu and extensive choices of beer and wine.
We've learned that developing our ability to consistently do a few things at a world-class level will be a lifelong project. So we keep our focus on certain areas that move us personally, and leave the rest of the world for others to pursue.
What We Do (and strive to do excellently)
- Procure the finest ingredients, artisinal foods, beer and wine that we can find in the world and offer them in simple, delicious dishes.
- Serve meats only from independent farmers and co-ops whose reputation and livelihood is tied to the quality of their animals. We particularly feature pastured and grassfed meat raised with traditional and sustainable methods.
- Make all of our own sausages, cure all our own meats, and bake all our own bread, in small batches by hand.
- Highlight local produce, seafood, olive oil, cheese, wine and beer.
- Offer a wide selection of world-class craft beers including always having cask beer available.
- Maintain an extensive list of wines by the glass (usually over 40) and a bottle list of personally selected wines from all over the world.
- Offer the opportunity to eat a handmade dinner with great ingredients and also enjoy a great drink for a total cost of around $25 including tax and table service, or to enjoy higher-priced selections if you choose.
- Happily accommodate families and kids
- Provide table service for a fixed rate of 18% of the check, with the cost waived if there are problems brought to our attention.
- Seat on a first-come, first-served basis (when one's whole party is present).
- Host larger parties in our private room. See here for details.
Things For Which You'll Want To Go To Places Other Than Us (with suggested places)
- Commodity meat. Almost every other restuarant in San Diego can provide this to you, and its dollar cost is significantly lower than pastured or independently raised meat. Your non-financial costs of eating commodity meat is up to your assessment.
- Reservations. Cowboy Star is a delicious restaurant downtown that accepts reservations.
- Cocktails/Hard Liquor. For great farm-to-table food with serious cocktails, check out Starlite Lounge in Little Italy -- and tell Kate we sent you.
- Large portions. Jayne's Gastropub on 30th Street is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant with portions more in keeping with traditional American dining than ours are. They also have an excellent wine selection.
- Main dishes under $10. Blue Water in Little Italy is a delicious seafood joint with a fish taco plate that is under ten bucks. Burger Lounge sells grass-fed burgers for around 7 dollars.
- Catering. Eco Caters are a couple local chaps who cater with seasonal, organic ingredients.
- Cake Service. I don't know which establishments do offer this. We are happy for you to bring a cake to your table to share after your meal. For more formal service, why not consider going to Heaven Sent Desserts after dinner?
- Tips. If you want to pay for table service with a tip of your choosing, every single other table-service restauant in America will accommodate you.
